Today we're off to Grapevine, Texas, for lunch and shopping. We had lunch at Farina's Winery, though I didn't see anyone drinking wine. As a group, we had a set lunch. First a really great salad if you like olives.
I chose Chicken Alfredo (could have had lasagna). Don't know why they used penne instead of noodles. I didn't care for it - ate around the pasta.
With garlic bread.
I've already forgotten what they called the forgettable cake. I didn't eat it, but some loved it.
We had a private room just for our group, so that was nice.
The light fixture in the main dining room caught my eye; afterall, it is a winery.
Then we headed out for some shopping. The artic wind was howling, and we didn't want to leave one warm shop to explore another. We didn't do much shopping, and finally just found a place to sit and have coffee until time to meet the bus. Must have been my "lights" day, because I loved these in the coffee shop.
We saw some interesting items in one shop. You no longer have to drink the juice from the pickle jar.
And you can have your beer and eat it too.
Grapevine calls itself the Christmas Capital of Texas, and they were gearing up for the season.
Grapevine is a cute little place, but it was so bone-chilling cold, we kept moving toward the pickup point, snapping photos as we hustled along. We missed a lot.
Someone said that you can't leave Texas without a stop at Buc-ee's. Besides, the bus needed gas and they had a bazillion gas pumps. Huge place. I took this photo from one end, so you can see how far it is to the other end. It's just a very large convenience store.
What are these?
For the kids.
If you wear these pj's, pray you don't have a heart attack. The paramedics would be laughing so hard, they'd probably dump you off the stretcher.
And did you know that pickles have genders?
The tubs of bacon grease were by the large containers of peanut oil and turkey fryers, so I guess you add it for flavor, though the sign says, "Fry - cook - bake."
Back to the casino, where we had dinner in the Gran Via Buffet. The food was from several ethnic groups (nothing special), but it was Veteran's Day, so the dessert counter was fun. And such a cheerful place.
End of day two. More tomorrow.
